A good product demo is short, shows the product doing one valuable thing, and makes the viewer think “I could do that”. You don't need a studio: a clear plan, a clean screen and a few edits are enough.
Start with one outcome
Write one sentence: after this video, the viewer will… For example, “…know they can send a branded invoice in under a minute.” Everything that doesn't serve that sentence goes in another video.
A simple outline
- The problem (10 seconds). What's slow, risky or annoying today.
- The moment (most of the video). Do the task in your product, start to finish, at a natural pace.
- The result (10 seconds). Show the finished thing: the sent invoice, the published page, the chart.
- What next (5 seconds). One action: try it free, book a call, read the docs.
Most demos work best between one and two minutes. If yours is longer, split it.
Prepare believable demo data
- Use a separate demo account with realistic names, numbers and dates you made up.
- Fill empty states. A dashboard with one row doesn't sell anything.
- Check for real customer names, emails and tokens. If something slips through, blur it afterwards.
Record it
- Record just the tab or window, not the whole screen. See how to record your screen in Chrome.
- Increase the browser zoom so text is large.
- Move the mouse deliberately and pause briefly before each click.
- Talk as if to one person. If you stumble, pause and say the sentence again; you'll cut the first try.
Edit it down
- Remove dead time: long pauses, “um”s, retakes and waiting for pages. Wekiflo's Auto Edit (Plus) finds these, lists every change, and lets you undo any of them.
- Keep the zooms: each click framed so viewers can read it. See zooming in on a recording.
- Make it look finished: a background, rounded corners, a browser frame.
- Add captions for viewers watching without sound.
Share it
Export an MP4 for your website, a sales email or YouTube; a 9:16 version for Shorts or Reels; a short GIF for a README or a changelog. Put the video near the top of the page it supports, with a poster image that shows the result rather than a blank screen.
A checklist before you publish
- Under two minutes, or clearly split into parts.
- No private data on screen.
- Every click readable on a laptop.
- Captions checked for product names.
- One clear next step at the end.
